Brownsburg is 9-1 against Avon since December of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Brownsburg Bulldogs will take on the Avon Orioles in a tournament on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.
Brownsburg is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Indiana's top teams: Center Grove, who was ranked tenth at the time (Brownsburg was ranked eighth). Brownsburg took down Center Grove 66-48 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.
Avery Gordon continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 33 points and 11 boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Brownsburg's points. Bri Brown was another key player, putting up five points along with five assists and three steals.
Brownsburg was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Center Grove only racked up 13 assists.
Meanwhile, Avon came into Saturday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against North Central on Saturday as Avon made off with a 78-55 win. The Orioles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 23 points or more this season.
Brownsburg better keep an eye on Aniah Smith. She was instrumental in Avon's win, going 9 of 17 on her way to 26 points and five steals. Smith's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Makaylee Butts, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 13 points and eight rebounds.
Brownsburg has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points per game. As for Avon, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Brownsburg and Avon are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Brownsburg hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 62.2 points per game. However, it's not like Avon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 63.1 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Brownsburg won a match that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played two weeks ago, slipping by Avon 66-65. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Smith, who went 14 of 30 on her way to 33 points in addition to seven assists and five boards. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Brownsburg still be able to contain Smith? There's only one way to find out.
