The Coweta Tigers suffered their closest defeat since December 9, 2023 on Friday. They fell just short of Memorial by a score of 48-45. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Coweta in their matchups with Memorial: they've now lost four in a row.
Coweta's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cade Ellison, who scored ten points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Mcelroy, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Jalil Cotton was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 17 rebounds for Memorial. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cotton has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaden Johnson, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
Coweta has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Memorial, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coweta will take on Holland Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Holland Hall presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Coweta in Oklahoma (Holland Hall is ranked 13th, while Coweta is ranked 177th). As for Memorial, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Edison at 5:30 p.m. on January 27th. Edison knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Memorial likes a good challenge.
