Naugatuck Valley - Brass recap October 8, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Michael Kreiger and Sal Frosceno connected against Crosby. The connection went for 84 yards, the longest such play in Naugatuck Valley - Brass this season.
Tyrae Small of Derby ran for the longest rushing play in the league this season against the Bulldogs last week. Small scampered for 91 yards on the play and finished with 150 on the day as his team bested Crosby.
Vincient Gambino threw for 290 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 16-23 with 1 interception.
Joey Salemme was a beast in the backfield as Seymour defeated Watertown.
Kreiger provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Derby topped David Jurewicz's team. He completed 12 passes for 268 yards and 3 touchdowns and also ran for 121 yards. Kreiger's key target this week was Frosceno, who caught 2 passes for 88 yards.
Jayson Matos was the best wideout in the league this week as Wolcott bested Torrington. Matos tallied 5 receptions for 145 yards. Jay Pelletier helped Wolcott's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 81 yards.
Leading Naugatuck Valley - Brass in both passing and receiving yards, the Eagles' Gambino and Matos have proven to be a lethal combination. Gambino has thrown for 1,076 yards this season, while Matos has 25 catches for 420 yards. Arkeel Newsome from Ansonia leads the league in rushing with 869 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Derby takes on second place Ansonia. Last week, George French's team defeated the Bulldogs, while the Chargers topped Wilby.
The Red Raiders extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Crosby, 34-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
