After flying high against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial last Tuesday, Vela came back down to earth. The Vela Sabercats took a 42-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders on Friday. The Sabercats' defeat signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Vela still got an impressive performance from Ava Tovar, who went 5 for 6 on her way to 15 points. The dominant performance gave Tovar a new career-high in points.

Vela's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 15-6. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.

Vela will host McAllen Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Vela has won three straight at home, while McAllen Memorial won seven straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
