Wilmington has gone a perfect 5-0 against Gardner-South Wilmington recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
The result came thanks to Kyle Farrell's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lucas Rink, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Gardner-South Wilmington came into Tuesday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Momence by a score of 10-5 on Tuesday.
Reed Millette made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Gardner-South Wilmington got a big performance out of Logan Conger, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI. Those five RBI gave Conger a new career-high. Brock Enerson was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Gardner-South Wilmington's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Wilmington, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Wilmington's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's match. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Gardner-South Wilmington, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Wilmington continue to outrun the ball?
