Tatnall hasn't had much luck against Mount Pleasant recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hornets will square off against the Green Knights at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Tatnall was handed a 11-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out St. Andrew's 6-4. The win was some much needed relief for the Hornets as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Jacob Glazier was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Glazier was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Glazier wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jonathan Veghte, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Billy Combs also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mount Pleasant). They put the hurt on Delcastle Technical with a sharp 24-0 victory on Thursday. The Green Knights haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Like Tatnall, Mount Pleasant also got a great game from a two-way player: Derek Smith. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Smith has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Mount Pleasant's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 2-6 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Chase Wilson was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Mount Pleasant is undefeated when Wilson posts two or more runs, but 1-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Sam Molina, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Mount Pleasant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .725. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Mount Pleasant's record now sits at 5-7. As for Tatnall, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 3-10-1.
Tatnall beat Mount Pleasant 7-3 when the teams last played back in April. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Green Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
