The Lake Region Thunder will face off against the George Jenkins Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
George Jenkins will be up against a hot Lake Region squad: the team just extended their winning streak to seven. Lake Region put the hurt on Winter Haven with a sharp 12-2 win on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Thunder considering their two-run performance the game before.
Makenna Meadows made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Alicia Bradberry was incredible, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2. Margaret Jenkins was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Lake Region always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Winter Haven only posted an OBP of .158.
Meanwhile, George Jenkins got the win against Plant City on Monday by a conclusive 7-1. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won five in a row.
George Jenkins also got a great performance from Layla Hinojosa as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Hinojosa has posted since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Janalyn Duque, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Those stolen bases marked the first that she snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Friel, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
George Jenkins now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Lake Region, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Lake Region has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. However, it's not like George Jenkins struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.4 hits.
