After flying high against the Winston-Salem Prep Phoenix last Tuesday, the College Prep & Leadership Academy Royals came back down to earth. College Prep & Leadership Academy fell 61-48 to Thomasville on Thursday. While losing is never fun, College Prep & Leadership Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 410th, while Thomasville is ranked 186th).
When it comes to explaining why College Prep & Leadership Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jayden Davis. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points. Davis continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyrie Pressley, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds.
Thomasville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryce McCoy, who scored 20 points along with six steals. McCoy is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.
College Prep & Leadership Academy has not been sharp recently as the team has lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-9 record this season. As for Thomasville, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-7.
College Prep & Leadership Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cornerstone Charter at 7:30 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Cornerstone Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five last Tuesday. As for Thomasville, they will head out on the road to face off against East Davidson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Thomasville is facing East Davidson at the right time seeing as East Davidson is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
