The Reagan Raiders will challenge the West Davidson Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Reagan 2.8, West Davidson 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Reagan is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of North Carolina's top teams: West Forsyth, who was ranked sixth at the time (Reagan was ranked ninth). The Raiders fell just short of the Titans by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Raiders couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, West Davidson came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Yellowjackets get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. Considering the Dragons have won eight matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Mahala Darnell and Hannah Rollins made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Darnell pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Rollins struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Darnell scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Rollins went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases Rollins has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Taylor Prince and Maci Harris did most of the damage at the plate: Prince went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Harris scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-2. Those five RBI gave Prince a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Michael, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-1.
West Davidson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.
West Davidson pushed their record up to 13-6 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Reagan, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-4.
Reagan took their win against West Davidson when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
