On Tuesday, the Douglas Tigers faced the Damonte Ranch Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Douglas fell just short of Damonte Ranch by a score of 44-41. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Douglas has suffered since December 29, 2023.
Douglas' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aleeah Weaver, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Weaver hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Zora Simpson, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Douglas' loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-8. As for Damonte Ranch, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Douglas will take on Carson at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Douglas is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Carson in Nevada (Douglas is ranked tenth, while Carson is ranked 52nd). As for Damonte Ranch, they will be playing at home against Galena at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Damonte Ranch is facing Galena at the right time seeing as Galena is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
