The Jefferson Panthers came tearing into Friday's contest with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Three Forks with points to spare, taking the game 65-49. 65 seems to be a good number for Jefferson as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
It was another big night for MacKenzie Layng, who scored 18 points along with seven assists and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Miller, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Jefferson's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Three Forks, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson will face off against East Helena at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Three Forks won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Ennis at 7:00 p.m. on January 20th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Montana (Ennis is ranked 51st, while Three Forks is ranked 48th).
