The Jefferson Yellowjackets's game last Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They walked away with a 54-47 win over Lincoln. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Jefferson has scored all year.
Jayden Calabro gave his former team something to remember he by as he scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and four steals for Jefferson. Another player making a difference was Victor Atupra, who scored 12 points.
Lincoln's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aiden Sandbothe, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Sandbothe is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Arnold, who scored 12 points.
Even though they lost, Lincoln smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Jefferson pushed their record up to 13-3 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.8 points per game. As for Lincoln, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.
Jefferson will head out on the road to square off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Le Mars will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Iowa Rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 41st). As for Lincoln, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Black Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Sioux City East's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
