William Blount hasn't had much luck against Heritage recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Governors will look to defend their home field against the Mountaineers at 2:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
William Blount's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over West.
Katee Owens made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over seven innings pitched. Owens was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Owens wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Morton, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Heritage entered their tilt with Loudon on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Redskins. The result was nothing new for the Mountaineers, who have now won eight contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Like William Blount, Heritage also got a great game from a two-way player: Katelyn Russell. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave Russell a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Lonas, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Autumn Brooke Perrin, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Heritage kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
William Blount's win bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Heritage, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.
