Cardinal Gibbons has gone 9-1 against Enloe recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Crusaders will head out to square off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Cardinal Gibbons sitting on 11 straight victories and Enloe on nine.
On Monday, Cardinal Gibbons beat Broughton 14-11.
Cardinal Gibbons got a massive performance out of Katie Scavone, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Scavone has posted since back in March. Talia Marinaro also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Cardinal Gibbons was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in 11 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Enloe was able to grind out a solid win over Leesville Road on Monday, taking the game 10-5.
Avery Modlin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emily Peters, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lilly Watson, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Cardinal Gibbons' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Enloe, their record is now 14-4.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cardinal Gibbons hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .376. However, it's not like Enloe struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cardinal Gibbons took their victory against Enloe when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 21-7 score. Will the Crusaders repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
