Baseball Game Preview: Central York Panthers vs. Spring Grove Rockets

Central York and Spring Grove are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Panthers will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Rockets at 4:15 p.m. Central York is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Central York challenged Red Lion on Wednesday. The Panthers walked away with a 4-1 win over the Lions. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Lions on their field since April 11, 2022.

Weston Wagaman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Wagaman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Wagaman wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kam Holtzapple, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Spring Grove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Northeastern, falling 10-2.

Central York's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Spring Grove, they now have a losing record of 3-4-1.

Spring Grove's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Central York has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .448. It's a different story for Spring Grove, though, as they've only averaged .280. Will they be able to contain Central York's hitters?

Central York skirted past Spring Grove 4-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rockets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
