Basketball Recap: Raymondville's Run of Seven Straight Victories Now Over

It was a good run, but Raymondville unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 63-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Freer Buckaroos. The Bearkats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Buckaroos apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.

Despite the loss, Raymondville still got an impressive performance from Colt Cavazos, who went 9 of 17 en route to 27 points and six rebounds. Cavazos' evening made it 11 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Tamez, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Raymondville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matches.

Freer's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ayden Ramirez, who went 9 of 13 on his way to 20 points and seven steals. Ramirez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed four or more in the last nine games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dehondre Hayes, who posted 23 points and six assists.

Raymondville's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Freer, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

Raymondville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 73-32 win against IDEA Frontier College Prep on the 10th. As for Freer, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-53 defeat against Cotulla on the 10th.
