The Enka Jets were the 57-46 winner over the North Buncombe Black Hawks when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Enka fell 59-47 to North Buncombe on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Enka can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 395th, while North Buncombe is ranked 160th).
Several Jets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Averi Coggins, who scored ten points along with three steals. Ali Crook was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
North Buncombe was led to victory by Aubrey Gilliland and Edmonds Gracie. Gilliland scored 11 points along with eight steals and five assists, while Gracie scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lily Metcalf, who scored nine points.
Enka's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-10. As for North Buncombe, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.
Enka won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against T.C. Roberson at 4:30 p.m. on January 18th. T.C. Roberson is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for North Buncombe, they will head out on the road to face off against Erwin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
