Basketball Recap: Silsbee Picks Up Sixth Straight Win at Home

Silsbee proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 41) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 65-62 victory over the Bridge City Cardinals. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since November 26, 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Silsbee to victory, but perhaps none more so than Olevia Mitchell-Vaughn, who went 10 for 17 on her way to 25 points. The dominant performance gave Mitchell-Vaughn a new career-high in points. Ayana Washington was another key player, going 5 of 9 on her way to 14 points along with seven boards and three blocks.

Bridge City's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Whitney Cunningham, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Cunningham continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Britten, who posted 19 points and four steals.

Silsbee's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.7 points per game. As for Bridge City, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 24-3.

Silsbee will venture away from home to face off against Little Cypress-Mauriceville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Silsbee's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups. As for Bridge City, they will challenge Jasper at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Bridge City is facing Jasper at the right time seeing as Jasper is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
