The Argonaut Mustangs will head out to square off against the Galt Warriors at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Argonaut is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Argonaut took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Bradshaw Christian with a sharp 9-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Hailey Dewald's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bri Bowers, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Karissa Carney, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Galt didn't have quite enough to beat Amador on Tuesday and fell 6-5. The loss continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Buffaloes: they've now lost three in a row.
Lexi Maldonado spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Galt saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evianna Barrera, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Argonaut's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Galt, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-14.
Galt's pitching crew better be locked in on Wednesday. Argonaut hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. It's a different story for Galt, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Argonaut in the park?
Argonaut beat Galt 5-2 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
