It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Veterans Memorial Patriots had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by Burbank on the road to the tune of 56-0. Considering Veterans Memorial has won five contests by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
James Peoples went supernova for Veterans Memorial, rushing for 217 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. Peoples was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 65 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Clinton Dixon, who rushed for 21 yards and a touchdown.
The win (which was Veterans Memorial's third in a row) raised their record to 8-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.3 points per game. As for Burbank, their loss dropped their record down to 9-2.
Veterans Memorial will take on Flour Bluff at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Flour Bluff knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Veterans Memorial likes a good challenge. Burbank does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
