McKean is 0-9 against Howard since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The McKean Highlanders just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Howard Wildcats at 4:45 p.m. on February 7th. McKean has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
On Tuesday, McKean's game was all tied up 18-18 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top against Odyssey Charter by a score of 49-42.
McKean's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alexus Barlow, who scored 24 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barlow has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Dolores Samson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Howard faced Smyrna in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Howard came out on top in a nail-biter against Smyrna on Thursday and snuck past 60-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
McKean's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-11. As for Howard, their win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-5.
McKean was dealt a bruising 56-14 loss at the hands of Howard when the teams last played back in February of 2023. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point McKean was down 36-10.
