Central Heights is 7-2 against Huntington since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Central Heights Blue Devils are taking a road trip to take on the Huntington Red Devils at 7:00 p.m.
Last Tuesday, Central Heights didn't have quite enough to beat Diboll and fell 9-7. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Lumberjacks recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.
Meanwhile, Huntington came tearing into Tuesday's match with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 14-1 margin over the Bulldogs. Considering the Red Devils have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Peyton Herrington and Brendan Fitzgerald made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Herrington struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Fitzgerald pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Herrington scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Fitzgerald scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Fitzgerald has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other pitching news, Marcus Johnson looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero).
Back at the plate, Caden Carney was a standout: he scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Alex Havard, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Huntington pushed their record up to 13-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Central Heights, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Central Heights couldn't quite get it done against Huntington when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can Central Heights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
