Kaitlin Wilson of
Buena (Sierra Vista, Ariz.) High School and junior
Taylor Odom of
Goreville (Goreville, Ill.) High School have all been named as the High School Players of the Week for their respective regions by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for games played through April 28, 2012.
In the South Region, Brock hit .750 for the week with 9 RBI and 7 runs scored. She was a perfect 4-4 at the plate in a 14-0 win over St. David's (N.C.) with 2 doubles. The senior has also been perfect on the base paths with 15 swipes in as many attempts. On the mound Brock owns a 16-1 record so far this season. The Patriots improved to 20-1 and a #16 ranking in North Carolina.
Representing the South Central Region, McGinley had 11 hits in 16 at bats over the course of 4 games with 7 RBI. On the mound the senior also pitched a shut out over rival Shawnee Mission North High School, scattering 4 hits in 5 innings of work leading the Lancers to a 10-0 win. Her efforts on the mound this week dropped her ERA of 1.0 for the season, and she has yet to yield an extra-base hit. McGinley has also proven to be a tough out at the plate as she owns a .558 batting average, striking out only once in 43 at bats. The Lancers are 12-0 and are currently ranked #12 in Kansas.
Out of the East Region, Sirois went a perfect 3-0 in the circle highlighted by a 8-0 complete game shutout against Grasso RVT (Conn.). She threw 21 innings, striking out 14 batters while allowing only 2 earned runs. The senior has held opposing hitters to a .137 batting average and had allowed only one extra-base hit all year. The Beavers record is 10-0, good enough for a #3 ranking in the state.
From the West Region, Wilson went 3-0 on the mound improving her overall record to 16-3 so far this season. Two of the three victories were shutouts raising her total to 8 shutouts on the season, two of which were perfect games over Catus Shadows (Ariz.) and Nogales (Ariz.). She has a season ERA of 1.52 while hitting .577 from the plate with 11 doubles, 9 homeruns, and 38 RBI. The Colts are 27-6 and are ranked #34 in the state of Arizona.
Rounding out this week's awards from the North Region, Odom had an outstanding week at the plate helping Goreville to a 4-0 finish on the week. The junior went 8 for 11 with 9 runs scored and 7 RBI to finish the week with a 1.727 slugging percentage. Odom improved her overall batting average to .523 with 7 doubles, 1 triple and 13 homeruns this season. The wins helped the Blackcats improve to 19-2 and a #1 ranking in the state of Illinois.
