The Kenai Central Kardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Nikiski Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with seven consecutive losses for Kenai Central and five for Nikiski.
Last Wednesday, things could have been worse for Kenai Central, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-45 loss to Bethel.
Despite the loss, Kenai Central saw an underclassman step up: Ellsi Miller dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miller has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Nelson, who scored a point along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Nikiski was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 39-34 to Seward.
Despite the defeat, Nikiski got a solid performance out of Shelby Burman, who scored 13 points.
Kenai Central bumped their record down to 1-7 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Nikiski, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Kenai Central strolled past Nikiski when the teams last played back in March of 2023 by a score of 44-30. Will Kenai Central repeat their success, or does Nikiski have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
