5A Region II District 12 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Horn moved up to 65 from 93 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region II District 12. A 49-24 win over Lee helped the Jaguars improve their standing.
Mesquite extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Longview, 33-7. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Skeeters.
Rockwall-Heath's dynamic duo of Chase Schultz and Shyon Motlagh proved tough for Rockwall to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Schultz threw for 266 yards and three touchdowns and Motlagh had 131 yards receiving. Rico Henderson helped Rockwall-Heath's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 65 yards.
Jay'lyn Lynch was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 119 yards on 12 carries as Horn defeated the Yellowjackets. Treyvon Marsh also contributed to the rushing game with 83 yards on the ground.
Thanks to the talents of Destri White and Marsh Rodney Webb's team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. White leads the league in passing with 881 yards, while Marsh has rushed for 473 yards this season. Rockwall-Heath's Motlagh leads the league in receiving yards with 423 on 25 catches.
The top two teams in 5A Region II District 12 will face off this week when first place Mesquite takes on second place Rockwall-Heath. Mesquite topped the Lobos last week, while Mickey Moss's team beat Rockwall.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Jaguars take on Scott Smith's team. Horn's offense has recorded 192 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Yellowjackets have permitted only 209 on the year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Hawks take on Robbie Robinson's team. Rockwall-Heath has allowed 85 points this season, while the Skeeters have given up 85. The Hawks allowed 12 points last week as they defeated Rockwall.
Rockwall-Heath took down the Yellowjackets 45-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Schultz ran for 113 yards in the win.
