Springville has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Pell City Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Springville really took it to St. Clair County for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-13 win on the road. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Springville had established a 22 point advantage.
It was another big night for Mahlon Alverson, who rushed for 211 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. Alverson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 68 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Conner, who threw for 73 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Pell City had to settle for a 41-38 defeat against Pinson Valley last Thursday.
Defeat or not, Pell City got some senior leadership from Caleb Groce who gained 101 total yards and three touchdowns and Markise Bedford who rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Springville's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Pell City, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which is still a better percentage than their 1-8 record this season.
Springville was taken down by Pell City 70-40 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Will Springville have more luck at home instead of on the road?
