Baseball Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

Newton lost against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg back in April, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Eagles fell just short of Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg by a score of 7-6. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Quincy Fulton made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Newton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 11-12 when he doesn't). Reed Tharp also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 15-13. As for Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, their win bumped their record up to 16-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newton will square off against Mattoon at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, they will take on Neoga at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
