Baseball Recap: Father Judge's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

Father Judge dropped their record down to 12-6 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Joseph's Prep Hawks. Crusaders fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Hawks since on Wednesday.

Nick Wolf was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Wolf wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Shane Szychulski, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for St. Joseph's Prep, their win bumped their record up to 8-9. The game was the first time they have beaten Father Judge on their field since April 8, 2021.

On St. Joseph's Prep's side, Eddie Dingle looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dingle also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Hawks are undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 4-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Robby Grasso was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of St. Joseph's Prep's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Will Ward, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Father Judge will face off against Franklin Towne at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for St. Joseph's Prep, they will square off against Hill School at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
