The McConnellsburg Spartans stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 66-42 margin over Claysburg-Kimmel. Winning may never get old, but McConnellsburg sure is getting used to it with their ninth in a row.
Drew Mellott was his usual excellent self, going 7 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 3 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Dom Jefferson, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Claysburg-Kimmel's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brayden Haney, who scored 16 points along with three steals, and Elias Ritchey who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals. Ritchey hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Treon, who scored eight points.
McConnellsburg is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season. As for Claysburg-Kimmel, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McConnellsburg will face off against the at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Fannett Metal is on a three-game streak of home wins, the Spartans a eight-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Claysburg-Kimmel, they will head out on the road to take on the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
