4A Region 8 recap November 5, 2013
Warren extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region 8 this week by beating Hamburg, 32-13. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
Star City took down DeWitt 44-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Warren's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Drake Jones threw for 110 and 1 touchdown and Von Eric Gonder had 75 yards receiving. On the ground Kilay Cox chipped in 108 yards. Kaleel Thomas helped Warren's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 21 yards.
Jones put up the best numbers through the air as the Lumberjacks topped the Lions. Jones' favorite target this week was Gonder, who caught 3 passes for 75 yards.
Warren's Jones and Darveon Brown led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Jones has thrown for 1,446 yards this season, while Brown, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 30 catches for 590 yards. Charles Dabner from the Dragons leads the league in rushing with 585 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Crossett takes on the Bulldogs. The Eagles are in fifth place, while Star City is in third place.
Blair Brown's team made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,009 from 4,657. The improvement was largely due to a 44-14 victory over DeWitt last week.
