The Downers Grove North Trojans will head out to square off against the Addison Trail Blazers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Downers Grove North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Downers Grove North gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Glenbard South as they made off with an 8-1 win. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
Colin Doyle tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brady Schallmoser and Antonio Russoties did most of the damage at the plate: Schallmoser got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Russoties went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave Russoties a new career-high. JD Cumbee was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.
Downers Grove North was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glenbard South only posted a batting average of .200.
Meanwhile, Addison Trail was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 10-3 to Downers Grove South.
Addison Trail saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jonathon Valdez, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Addison Trail's defeat dropped their record down to 8-18. As for Downers Grove North, their record is now 20-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Downers Grove North has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Addison Trail struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Downers Grove North beat Addison Trail 6-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
