Even though the Cairo Syrupmakers have not done well against the Bainbridge Bearcats recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Cairo secured a 61-56 W over Bainbridge. The victory was all the more spectacular given Cairo's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while Bainbridge is ranked 121st).
Leading Cairo to victory were Amari Powell and Keshen Spence. Powell scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Spence scored 28 points. Powell continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jykortnee Brown, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Cairo has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. As for Bainbridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cairo won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Spencer at 4:30 p.m. on January 20th. Spencer knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 matches -- so hopefully Cairo likes a good challenge. As for Bainbridge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Thomas County Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
