Two dominant guards in Grant Morrison and Treivan Wright are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Charleston Collegiate Sundevils will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Curtis Baptist Crusaders at 5:45 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Thursday, Charleston Collegiate didn't have quite enough to beat Faith Christian and fell 59-57. While the Sundevils didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Knights 18-11 in the first quarter.
Despite the defeat, Charleston Collegiate had strong showings from Morrison, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten assists, and Thomas Reed, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 35.1% of Charleston Collegiate's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kani Butler, who put up 11 points.
Meanwhile, Curtis Baptist beat Augusta E 68-56 on Tuesday. Given the Crusaders' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 198th, while the Eagles are ranked 559th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Curtis Baptist's win came from a few key players Charleston Collegiate will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Wiltrez (Trez) Mincey, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 15 boards. His evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Wright was another key player, going 9 for 16 on his way to 23 points.
Curtis Baptist now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Charleston Collegiate, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Charleston Collegiate has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 28.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Curtis Baptist struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Charleston Collegiate lost to Curtis Baptist at home by a decisive 78-62 margin in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Will Charleston Collegiate have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
