The Franklin County Seahawks will head out on the road to face off against the Port St. Joe Tiger Sharks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Franklin County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Franklin County will head out to face Port St. Joe after giving up their first home loss of the season on Friday. Franklin County lost 9-3 to Chiles. Seahawks fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Timberwolves since on Friday.
Franklin County saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Shasta Butler, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Port St. Joe had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They put the hurt on the Gators with a sharp 11-1 victory. The game snapped a strange streak: the last six times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
The team relied heavily on Elli Newman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addy Silcox, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Port St. Joe always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wewahitchka only posted an OBP of .125.
Port St. Joe pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Franklin County, their loss dropped their record down to 9-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Franklin County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Port St. Joe struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Franklin County beat Port St. Joe 6-1 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for Franklin County since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
