APTOS, Calif. - In a back and forth game,
Aptos (Calif.)'s offense came through to hand the the Mariners a 34-31 win.
After taking the lead on a touchdown catch by
Tony Velitchkov, the Toreadores went into halftime with a 20-7 lead. The Mariners scored the winning points with a touchdown pass by
Alex Joh to
Aaron McAnerney that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring seven points in the third, Aptos still trailed by 9 points going into the fourth quarter. But 20 points in the fourth helped AHS pull out the victory.
The Mariners didn't take the lead for good until the the fourth quarter when Joh thew a touchdown to McAnerney.
McAnerney played well for Aptos in the victory. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns and caught one touchdown.
Monterey's
James Hill played well. He ran for one touchdown.
MHS came in allowing just 11.1 points per game this season.
The defeat comes as a step back for Monterey, which notched a 41-0 victory over Soledad in its previous outing.
