Black River is a perfect 5-0 against Oberlin since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Pirates will square off against the Phoenix at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Black River has five straight victories, Oberlin has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Black River and Brookside have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Cardinals. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Abbey Kiser made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Mia Rosales was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Peyton Stewart also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Black River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .324 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Oberlin fell victim to Columbia and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Raiders, falling 19-0. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Phoenix's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Oberlin saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Clara McCown, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Black River pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Oberlin, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Oberlin's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Black River has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Oberlin, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Black River's sizable advantage in that area, the Phoenix will need to find a way to close that gap.
Black River took their win against Oberlin in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
