The Charleston Math & Science Riptide pushed their score all the way to 55 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Baptist Hill by a score of 57-55. Even though they lost, Charleston Math & Science's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.1 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
When it comes to explaining why Charleston Math & Science lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zion King. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points King has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Simmons, who scored eight points.
Baptist Hill's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rickey Middleton Jr, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Middleton Jr is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Jaden Douglas was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Charleston Math & Science and nudges their season record down to 9-9. As for Baptist Hill, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 4-7 record this season.
Charleston Math & Science will be playing at home against Military Magnet Academy at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Military Magnet Academy is ranked 225th, while Charleston Math & Science is ranked 205th). As for Baptist Hill, they will head out on the road to face off against Palmetto Scholars Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Palmetto Scholars Academy is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
