Basketball Recap: Beardstown Skates Past Astoria/VIT with Ease

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Clinton, Beardstown was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They breezed by the Astoria/VIT Rebels to the tune of 62-35. The Tigers pushed the score to 55-26 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rebels cut but never quite recovered from.

Beardstown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cleon Djafalo led the charge by putting up seven points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Djafalo a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Jordy Kanda, who posted 11 points.

Beardstown was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Beardstown's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-11. As for Astoria/VIT, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-12.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Rushville-Industry the next time they take the court. Beardstown will head out to face Rushville-Industry at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Astoria/VIT will host them at 6:00 p.m. on January 21st.
