The Two Rivers Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Mahtomedi Zephyrs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Two Rivers has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They lost to Hill-Murray at home by a decisive 60-43 margin on Friday.
Despite the loss, Two Rivers got a solid performance out of Gabi Kirchner, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Kirchner is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Sophia Amundson was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Mahtomedi pushed their score all the way to 80 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 81-80 to St. Peter. While losing is never fun, Mahtomedi can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while St. Peter is ranked 16th).
Two Rivers has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season. As for Mahtomedi, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-5.
Two Rivers was dealt a bruising 73-32 defeat at the hands of Mahtomedi when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Two Rivers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
