The Waterford Wolverines will face off against the Wilmot Panthers on Tuesday. Waterford's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Wilmot's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Friday, Waterford needed a bit of extra time to put away St. Joseph. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Lancers 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolverines have posted since May 8th.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four game, Wilmot brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They never let Cudahy get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory on Thursday. The contest marked the Panthers' most dominant win of the season.
Chance Ruby and Jackson Price made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Ruby didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Price tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Wilmot is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-15 otherwise. At the plate, Ruby went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Price went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Nate Dzierzanowski was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Wilmot is undefeated when Dzierzanowski posts two or more runs, but 7-17 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nick Vozel, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Wilmot always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Waterford is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Wilmot, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-17.
Everything went Waterford's way against Wilmot in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Waterford made off with a 10-2 victory. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
