The Gulf Shores Dolphins will square off against the Cordova Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Gulf Shores comes in on four and Cordova on three.
Gulf Shores saw some tournament action on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over Brighton.
Anna Leigh Price was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Neaveh James, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Rhyleah Gleber was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Gulf Shores was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are undefeated (9-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, everything went Cordova's way against Carbon Hill on Tuesday as Cordova made off with a 7-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Gulf Shores, Cordova also got a great game from a two-way player: Camden Johnson. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. What's more, Johnson posted four strikeouts, the most she's had over her last ten games. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Khloe Herron was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Lexee King, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Gulf Shores' win bumped their record up to 15-9-1. As for Cordova, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gulf Shores hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Cordova struggles in that department as they've averaged .410. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
