Given Augusta Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Fightin' Irish are ranked 304th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Augusta Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaylee Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Jackson pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Booker, who scored four points along with ten rebounds.
Aquinas' loss came despite strong showings from Emma Kate Noegel and Elizabeth Elliot. Noegel dropped a double-double on ten points and 16 rebounds, while Elliot scored 14 points along with three steals. Noegel has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last five times she's played.
The victory makes it two in a row for Augusta Christian and bumps their season record up to 17-6. As for Aquinas, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Augusta Christian will take on the Skyhawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hammond will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Aquinas, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Washington-Wilkes is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
