Cedaredge is on a five-game streak of home losses, Olathe an 11-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Cedaredge Bruins will take on the Olathe Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cedaredge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Saturday.
Cedaredge's 18-4 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell 61-49 to Meeker. While losing is never fun, Cedaredge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while Meeker is ranked 86th).
Despite their defeat, Cedaredge saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Luke Maxey, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Maxey has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylan Brooks, who scored 13 points.
Even though they lost, Cedaredge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Meeker only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Olathe scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 69-23 victory over West Grand. With that win, Olathe brought their scoring average up to 51.5 points per game.
Olathe found their leader in underclassman Isaiah Gordon, who scored 29 points. Another player making a difference was Miguel Vargas, who scored 13 points.
Cedaredge's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Olathe, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-9.
Cedaredge strolled past Olathe in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a score of 80-65. Will Cedaredge repeat their success, or does Olathe have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
