The Globe Tigers lost against the Payson Longhorns back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The match between the pair wasn't particularly close, with Globe falling 65-47. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for them in their matchups with Payson: they've now lost three in a row.
Globe's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josiah Cutter, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Jonas Dillon, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Leading Payson to victory were Mikey Schinstock and Omar Fierro-Nava. Schinstock scored 24 points along with five rebounds, while Fierro-Nava dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Fierro-Nava pulled down eight or more rebounds. Sergio Madrid was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Globe's loss dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Payson, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-7.
Globe will be playing in front of their home fans against Benjamin Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Benjamin Franklin has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 293 points over their last four matches. Payson won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Holbrook at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Holbrook is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 57.3 points per game.
