Baseball Recap: Bracken County Wins Going Away Against Augusta

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Newport Central Catholic, Bracken County was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Everything went their way against the Augusta Panthers as they made off with a 13-3 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Polar Bears as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Mitchell Steinhauer and Noah Bachman made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Steinhauer tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bachman struck out 11 batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Steinhauer got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Bachman got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Corbin Combess and Justus Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Combess got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Johnson got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Combess has posted since back in March. Dawson Kindle was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Bracken County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Augusta only posted an OBP of .345.

Bracken County's win bumped their record up to 3-11. As for Augusta, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 9-6.

Coincidentally, Bracken County and Augusta will both be playing Bath County the next time they take the field. The Panthers will host the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Polar Bears will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
