Wiley will square off against Flagler at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Wiley is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
Wiley made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Cheraw, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Panthers fell just short of the Wolverines by a score of 54-51 on Friday. Despite 151 more yards than the Wolverines, the Panthers couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Despite the loss, Wiley got top-tier performance from Grant Mauch, who rushed for 235 yards and three TDs while picking up 8.7 yards per carry, and also threw for 190 yards and four touchdowns. Mauch also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making 13 total tackles (3.0 for loss) in addition to snagging an interception.
While Wiley came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Cheraw: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 42.1%. The team can thank Devonte Pizarro for the heroic effort on defense: he. Wiley wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 53.1%.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Flagler's offense. They had to suffer through a 50-0 loss at the hands of Caliche. The game marked the first time this season in which the Panthers were not able to get on the board.
Even if they lost, Flagler's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Brayden Hill, Jordan Wilson, and JR Kountz, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Wiley's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Flagler, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
Everything came up roses for Wiley against Flagler in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 64-20 victory. In that matchup, Wiley amassed a halftime lead of 34-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
