Given Quitman's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while Newton County is ranked 75th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Quitman was led to victory by AALIYAH NIXON and AUDRIANA HARRIS. NIXON scored 17 points along with 3 steals, while HARRIS dropped a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds. The game was HARRIS's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jahyla Dubuse, who scored 8 points.
Quitman's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-0. As for Newton County, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Quitman will be playing at home against Heidelberg at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newton County, they will head out on the road to face off against Lake at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
