The Danbury Hatters will take on the Fairfield Prep Jesuits at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Danbury is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Naugatuck with a sharp 12-4 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hatters.
Danbury got a massive performance out of Jake O'Keefe, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI O'Keefe has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Johnny Callari, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Danbury was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Fairfield Prep got the win against Platt on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-2. The Jesuits might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Jack Buck looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brady Cesseratto was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Ryan Ventrelle was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Danbury's record now sits at 11-13. As for Fairfield Prep, their record is now 26-1.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Danbury hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Fairfield Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .401. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Danbury was able to grind out a solid victory over Fairfield Prep in their previous matchup back in March of 2019, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hatters since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
