Mackenzie Miller made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Miller was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Aubrey Vogel was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Regan Heubner, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Auburn had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Hawks.
Meena Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Addison Wheatley, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Carlisle, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Auburn pushed their record up to 18-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central, their win bumped their record up to 7-9.
PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. The Bluejays have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Auburn, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases.
