The McClave Cardinals and the Merino Rams squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but sadly the McClave Cardinals had to settle for second. McClave fell to Merino 16-12. McClave's defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, McClave still got an impressive performance from Gavin Tempel, who rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns.
Coen Schmidt was his usual excellent self, rushing for 138 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and also throwing for 135 yards and a touchdown while completing 81.8% of his passes. Schmidt has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last six times he's played.
McClave's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Merino, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
McClave does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Merino will head out on the road to face off against Simla at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Simla's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
